Better together: Cleanup + Great Canadian BioBlitz
Come spend a fall day by the water with WWMC and the Paul First Nation (PFN)! We’re combining our Clean Shores Challenge with the Great Canadian BioBlitz for a day of discovery, community, and hands-on care for the lake.
Date: Sunday, September 27
Location: Eastern shore of Wabamun Lake, along PFN reserve lands
Time: 10am to 1pm
Meeting spot: Clubhouse at the former Iron Head Golf Course

Bring sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate layers, work gloves, and your phone for nature photos.

Together, we’ll support the Paul First Nation’s community by helping clean up the shoreline, while taking time to discover and document the life around us. Pick up a piece of litter, pause to photograph a fascinating fungus, spot a bird, and share the excitement of finding something you’ve never noticed before!
What’s a BioBlitz?
Think of it as a nature scavenger hunt that contributes to science! The Great Canadian BioBlitz invites people across Canada to document plants, animals, and fungi using iNaturalist. Those observations help build knowledge of biodiversity and support conservation.
Download the free iNaturalist App, create an account, and bring your curiosity. Photograph what catches your eye and upload your observations to help grow our understanding of the Wabamun watershed. You don’t need to know every species’ name to take part!

Facing the Dragon: Building Community Resilience to Climate Change in the Wabamun Lake Region

On July 8, we welcomed Dr. Debra Davidson as our inaugural speaker. Dr. Davidson is a nationally recognized scholar whose work focuses on climate change impacts, adaptation, energy transitions, and the social dimensions of environmental change. Her presentation explored how climate change is already affecting the Canadian prairies through shifting temperatures, precipitation patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events.
